Rev. P. L. Redmond, Jr.
Pastor
New Calvary Missionary Baptist Church
Rev. Pozie L. Redmond, Jr. is a Christian man of visions and dreams. He envisions a world in which the church and the community work hand in hand for the betterment of the people. Rev. Redmond dreams of a city that is free of drugs and violence. However utopian his dreams may seem, through God’s grace and mercy, Pastor Redmond is steadfastly working to fulfill those dreams and visions.
An integral component of Pastor Redmond’s vision is the New Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. He served as organizer of that ministry in 1989, which began with 33 members, and has now grown to over 1,600 members. Because of this overwhelming growth, Pastor Redmond guided New Calvary to a larger facility at 1690 Melrose Drive in southwest Atlanta. On the second Sunday in May 2003, they moved to the new edifice that includes a 1400 seat sanctuary with an education building that provides 96 classrooms; a fellowship hall; and a residential property that will be converted into a youth center. Another element of the dream of community and church walking hand in hand is his work with the Community Alliance Metropolitan Parkway, Incorporated (CAMP, Inc.); a local community service organization dedicated to improving and enhancing the Perkerson Park area. Pastor Redmond, one of the founders, serves as Chairman of the Board of this body. He is also the organizer and Chairman of the Board for the New Calvary Commission for Community Improvement, Incorporated (NCCCI, Inc.); a 501(C)3 foundation. This unit serves the community by adhering to Pastor’s dream of fulfilling God’s ordinances to feed the hungry, clothe the naked and house the homeless. Countless lives have been saved or changed through this league of stewards.
In accordance with the dream, Pastor Redmond is an advocate of the search for Christian knowledge. He serves as Moderator of the Mt. Calvary Missionary & Educational Baptist Association, an organization committed to the teaching and training of the 30+ local churches that comprise its membership. Pastor Redmond is Immediate Past President of the African American Fellowship of the Georgia Baptist Convention, which consists of 130 churches and missions, and is under the auspices of the Southern Baptist Convention.
He has been honored with countless civic and religious awards, including the Guiding Light Award for devoted community volunteerism from the City of Atlanta; the Outstanding Service Award from the Morehouse School of Medicine; the Pastor of the Year Award from the Greater Atlanta Interdenominational Mass Choir and the 2001 Religion Award from the Concerned Black Clergy.
Pastor Redmond is a native of Atlanta, Georgia, the only child of Mr. & Mrs. Pozie L. Redmond, Sr. He attended Morehouse College, Carver Bible College and Morehouse School of Religion Extension Program.
He is happily married to his God given helpmate, Sister Evelyn Carmichael Redmond. This forty year union has been blessed with two wonderful daughters, Pamela Danielle and April Mignon.
Pastor Redmond is a man of visions and dreams, chosen by God to turn those dreams and visions into realities.
